Many people feel that a winning smile serves them well in social situations. Yet a tooth that has been dulled by stains, chips, or unsightly old fillings can often leave you wanting to explore your restoration options. Sometimes this can be as simple as having J. PARHAM DENTISTRY restore one of more unappealing teeth with a cosmetic porcelain crown.

A crown essentially replaces the enamel layer with an artificial material. Most of the time a crown on a tooth in your smile will call for using porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.

The first step in the process involves your J. PARHAM DENTISTRY dentist examining the tooth, and taking some X-rays. Then your dentist will remove the majority of the enamel layer of the tooth, creating an abutment to later anchor your new crown. Then he will make an impression of the area. This is sent to a dental lab to serve as a guide while they make your final crown. A hard plastic cap, known as a temporary crown, is secured over the abutment to protect it.

When the dental lab has completed your permanent crown, we will call you back in for a short second appointment. The temporary crown is removed and your new permanent crown is cemented in place.
