Dr. James Parham, who is known to his friends as “Jay,” graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in May 2013. Before attending dental school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology/zoology from Texas Tech University in May 2006, graduating magna cum laude. Dr. Parham is dedicated to continuing his education in dentistry by regularly taking continuing education courses on a variety of topics, ranging currently from dental implants and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to BOTOX® and sedation in the near future. He has received advanced training in sleep apnea and oral appliances for treating obstructive sleep apnea, and he is currently working toward earning his fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Parham is a member of several professional, prestigious organizations, including the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Rotary Club of Springdale, Springdale Chamber of Commerce, Academy of Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy, and Seattle Study Club of Northwest Arkansas. He was recently honored to be voted as the President-Elect of the Arkansas Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), a position he will serve in until June 30, 2015. Dr. Parham will then serve as the President of the Arkansas AGD from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017.

Dr. Parham has been practicing dentistry in Springdale, Arkansas since October 2013. His commitment to his patients includes staying current on the latest technology, techniques, and materials available to provide the best comprehensive dental care possible to all of his patients. He strives to improve not only his patients’ oral health, but their overall health as well. Dr. Parham is also devoted to giving back to his community as much as possible, and he looks forward to building a long-lasting relationship with the Springdale community and Northwest Arkansas as a region.

Dr. Parham is originally from Magnolia, Arkansas, and after attending school in Texas, he is excited to finally be back in his home state and closer to his family; his grandparents on both sides still live in Magnolia. Most of his family lives in Arkansas, in areas including Magnolia, Little Rock, and Hot Springs. His mother and stepfather live in Longview, Texas, and his mom is currently taking care of Dr. Parham’s two dogs, whom she considers her “grand-dogs.” Dr. Parham’s dogs are named Tucker (a Golden Retriever) and Tess (a Miniature Shar Pei). His hobbies include hunting, fishing, hiking, the great outdoors, and general aviation – Dr. Parham got his pilot’s license to enable him to fly back and forth between Texarkana, Arkansas and San Antonio, Texas.

Between his undergraduate years at Texas Tech and dental school in San Antonio, Dr. Parham took two years off to help his grandmother run their family business, a sand and gravel company called Garland Sand and Gravel Corporation, near Texarkana, Arkansas. They later joined forces with outside investors to create Chieftain Sand and Proppant LLC, which produces frac sand for the oil and gas industries. Dr. Parham believes this business experience was an invaluable learning tool to also help with his dental practice, for it taught him how to not only run a business, be successful in providing services to others, and be profitable enough to take care of all of his employees, but also how to stay compliant with governmental regulations and agencies such as OSHA and HIPAA.
